Katihar, Oct. 20: A police constable was sent to jail today for allegedly firing from his service revolver in the Shaheed Chowk area in front of Town police station following a tiff with a traffic guard.

Pankaj Paswan, posted at the Khazanchi Haat police station, approached Ajay Kumar Singh, who was manning traffic at Shaheed Chowk and demanded money from the latter yesterday.

According to sources, a scuffle broke out between the two when Ajay refused to give money to Pankaj. Infuriated at Ajay’s refusal, Pankaj, who was apparently drunk, brought out his revolver and fired in the air. Other constables present in the area caught Pankaj who was allegedly threatening to shoot Ajay.

Deputy superintendent of police (town) Yugal Kishore Sinha said: “Pankaj has been sent to Katihar district jail. A probe is on to find if he fired from his service revolver.”
