Transfer for rape accused

Chhapra, Aug. 24: All the employees and officers of Majhi police station have been directed to join Chhapra police lines.

The action was prompted by the hue and cry against the police after allegations arose of that a jail inmate, Ritu Kumari, was drugged and gangraped while being held on remand on August 18 and 19.

Deputy inspector-general of police (DIG), Saran range, Sunil Kumar said station in-charge Kapur Nath Sharma was already suspended and now the policemen posted at Majhi police station have been sent to the police lines. “Further investigation is on,” he added. Deputy superintendent of police Ajay Kumar told that two sub-inspectors, four assistant sub-inspectors, three munshis and two probationary sub-inspectors were posted at Manjhi police station and all have been have been transferred to the police lines.

District magistrate Vinay Kumar said FIR against the culprits would be lodged.

Meanwhile, the CPM district unit today took out a protest rally at Manjhi and threatened that if action against the culprits is not taken, the party will gherao the DM and the SP on August 27.
