Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU), on the basis of its internal probe, is ready to take action against people involved in the fake law degree case of former Delhi law minister Jitendar Singh Tomar.
The Delhi police's visit and subsequent quizzing of TMBU officials on September 12 is being seen as the catalyst behind its sudden alacrity.
TMBU is mulling the cancellation of Tomar's LLB degree along with the disaffiliation of Bishwanath Singh Institute for Legal Studies, Munger, from where Tomar procured the degree. A university source said: "TMBU's action can be construed as a race against the filing of the Tomar case chargesheet by the Delhi police."
TMBU sources said the varsity's internal probe had found that Tomar got the fake law degree in connivance with employees of Bishwanath Singh Institute for Legal Studies and some employees of the TMBU examination department. On the basis of the findings, the committee had recommended to cancellation of the affiliation of the institute.
TMBU pro-vice-chancellor A.K. Roy said: "Since vice chancellor Ramashanker Dubey is out of Bhagalpur, the notification for the September 21 meeting has not been issued."
Tomar had enrolled with the institute in Munger for the 1994-97 session but registered with TMBU after seven years, that is, 2001, and obtained the law degree in 2012. The institute was not affiliated with TMBU from 1992-2000. The internal investigation team observed that Tomar's registration was done in 2001 only because after the institute got affiliated to TMBU.
R.K. Mishra, the principal of the institute, declined comment on the pretext that he had joined the institution in 2008, much after the Tomar episode.
Dilip Kumar, the president of Chhatra Rashtriya Janata Dal, the RJD students' wing at TMBU, has demanded that the varsity's internal committee report be made public.
