Samvedna, a social marketing club of Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna, celebrated Teachers’ Day with a difference at the institute on Saturday.
The club organised an event — Beautiful Mind — a project for imparting educating to children from slums around the city to improve their future. Under the project, various competitions including sketching, recitation and fun events like musical chairs, were organised for the underprivileged kids.
Sunita Kumari won the first prize in sketching while Pooja Kumari and Rohit Kumar bagged the second and third positions
respectively. In recitation, Priya Kumari and Mansi won the first and second prizes, respectively. Aarti Kumari emerged victorious in two competitions — singing and musical chairs.
Students pursuing a postgraduate diploma in management were present for the celebration. Sketching kits and chocolates were distributed among the children. Kushal Singh, a student, said: “The kids are very intelligent. We also tell them about the importance of education. All that these children require is a little boost in order to excel.”
Fiesta for freshers
Central University of South Bihar celebrated its 6th foundation-cum-Teachers’ Day on Saturday, followed by a freshers’ party.
The students of the third semester threw the party for the newcomers. The foundation day celebrations started in a traditional way with the lighting of the lamp by senior professor Arun Kumar Sinha. This was followed by his speech.
The celebrations were taken forward with the University anthem — Kala sanskriti, sarvagyan ki, bahe jahan vidya dhara.
Vice-chancellor Harish Chandra Singh Rathore could not join the celebrations but his pre-recorded video message was played for the students and faculty members.
Various games and a short cultural programme was organised on this occasion. A lot of students took part in the events. Siuli Shaw, a student, danced on Madhuban me radhika nache. Another student, Mamba, presented a short display of martial arts with the help of props, which was widely applauded.
Jaya Shukla, pursuing postgraduation in psychology, won the title of Miss Fresher, Lokesh Kumar, a student from the postgraduate department of life science, won Mister Fresher.
Devotion to guides
Students and faculty members of St Xavier’s College of Education celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 4 with much pomp and show.
Students dedicated various songs and dance performances to their teachers. Clarence Peter, former president of the alumni association of the college, was the chief guest of the programme.
He, along with the college principal and the faculty, inaugurated the programme in a traditional manner by lighting the lamp. The programme started with a prayer service, which was followed by a welcome song.
A tribal dance was one of the highlights of the programme. Prince Charles, a student pursuing a Bachelors in education, presented a speech in English and Abhishek Bajpayee, a postgraduate student of the same department presented a speech in Hindi.
A skit, showing how hard work could be the only key to success, also received huge applause. A fusion dance, folk dances and a classical dance were some of the attractions of the programme, which were much appreciated by the teachers and applauded.
The postgraduate students of the education department presented a group song. Addressing the gathering, the Clarence Peter said: “Teachers have to role models because students see their teachers and imitate them.”
Principal Thomas Perumalil S.J. congratulated the faculty for their dedicated service to the college and society. He also called upon the students to be torchbearers of the society when they don the role of teachers in future.
Different approach
St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology started a new initiative on Friday as it celebrated staff day in honour of the college employees.
College principal T. Nishant S.J. said the college would celebrate staff day instead of Teachers’ Day from this year. He said college employees also played an important role in the college and so the college wanted to dedicate a day in their honour.
A cultural programme was organised by the students on this occassion.
