Patna: The kingpin of a liquor mafia, Arun Singh alias Anirudha Singh, finally fell into the police dragnet in Saran district on Friday, more than three months after he had dodged a police team in Muzaffarpur district.

Arun, a resident of Piprahia village in Siwan, was among the 10 most wanted liquor traders of the state who were allegedly involved in supply and sale of liquor in the state in violation of the provisions of the Bihar Excise and Prohibition Act, 2016.

Arun's arrest is considered a big achievement for the police as far as action against illicit liquor trade is concerned. "We were after him (Arun) for the past several months as he was one of the biggest supplies of alcohol in north Bihar," said Saran superintendent of police Hari Kishore Rai.

The SP said the members of the special investigation team laid a trap as soon as they came to know that Arun was likely to visit Masarakh in Saran district to collect money from one of the agents. The team caught him with a stolen motorbike near Bansohi main road, he added.

Another team conducted a raid at Arun's Kankerbagh residence from where they recovered Rs 36 lakh in cash, a note-counting machine, gold jewellery and documents related to his property. A diary containing the names of some police personnel was also seized during the raid.
