Patna: Patna police have arrested three criminals who had opened fire at cops who were giving the trio a chase.
In an encounter last Tuesday, Amresh Kumar of the quick mobile team suffered bullet injuries. The arrested have been identified as Shah Rukh alias Kanhaiya, Shankar Yadav and Shantu Verma. Sources said the Kankerbagh police were looking for three criminals who had fired and injured Chunu Sahu on February 27.
The quick mobile team comprising Amresh Kumar and Arun Kumar based on information had gone to Postal Park area to arrest the three criminals. The criminals when challenged by the cops opened fire injuring Amresh. The cops were successful in nabbing Verma and Shahrukh, but Shankar, who fired at Amresh, managed to flee.
Superintendent of police (SP east) Vishal Sharma constituted a team comprising deputy superintendent of police (DSP sadar) and Kankerbagh station house officer to nab Shankar. Sharma said: "We were monitoring his movement. On Sunday evening we had information that Shankar was seen at Malahi Pakri. Based on the input, we conducted raids and arrested him. We also found two country-made pistols, six cartridges and the Scooty in which Shankar had fled."
In another development, the police arrested three criminals involved in two separate murder incidents.
The arrested criminals have been identified as Gopal alias Sukhu, Mohammed Miraz and Mohammed Aamir. Both incidents occurred at Alamganj. The Alamganj area of Patna City was rocked by two back to back murder incidents.
In the first incident on March 2, a certain Aakash was shot dead by unidentified assailants inside a salon at Alamganj. Next day, in a group clash a certain Rajkumar alias Rishu was murdered while another person, Shivam, was injured in the incident.
Senior superintendent of police (in-charge) Lalan Mohan Prasad had constituted a team headed by Sharma. Prasad said: "The police looking for criminals involved in the incident had a tip-off that a certain Gopal who was involved in the murder of Aakash was hiding in Alamganj. Based on inputs we conducted raids and arrested Gopal. Based on intelligence inputs we were successful in nabbing Mohammed Aamir and Mohammed Miraz who were involved in the murder of Raj Kumar alias Rishu."
