Patna: Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Tuesday launched a fierce attack on his chachas (uncles) - chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi - both of whom were absent at the time Tejashwi was giving a speech in connection with the Governor's speech.
"When I have stood to speak both the chief minister and deputy chief minister fled the house out of fear," Tejashwi said. "They know they cannot face my bouncers and googlies."
He had plenty of googlies to deliver. "For two days, Sushil Kumar Modi disowned Manoj Baitha - the BJP leader who murdered nine children in Muzaffarpur. Two days later, he admits Baitha was a BJP leader and then carries out the drama of expelling him," Tejashwi said.
He further said that the government was trying to save Baitha by delaying his arrest, so that when he surfaces it is too late for an alcohol test to confirm he was intoxicated while driving the ill-fated vehicle that killed the children.
He also taunted the chief minister for deciding not to celebrate Holi because of the accident that claimed nine kids' lives.
"So sweet. Has he visited the families of the bereaved and asked policemen to catch Manoj Baitha," Tejashwi asked. "It would have taken the chief minister just 15 minutes to go on a chopper and console the bereaved families."
Tejashwi continued taking digs at Nitish and deputy chief minister Sushil Modi.
"Chief minister Nitish has formed four governments in four years. It has not happened anywhere else in the country. How can there be development in a state where there are four governments in four years," Tejashwi asked.
He said Nitish should tell the House how he paid a Rs 20,000 fine imposed on him by the Supreme Court in a case of plagiarism.
"Was it by cheque or RTGS," Tejashwi asked.
He went on to stress that the "double engine government" had only helped in rise of crime and corruption in the state.
"Which minister or senior official has been punished in any scam," he asked.
Tejashwi also gave details of accounts held by relatives of Sushil Kumar Modi and declared that the deputy chief minister's passport should be impounded as he might flee the country like Nirav Modi.
"Poor Nitish chaha is caught in the BJP web," Nitish said.
He also claimed that 75 per cent of ministers in the state government were tainted. "I have photos of many consuming liquor," he claimed.
Tejashwi also attacked the budget, pointing out that BJP MLAs had demanded building of walls around grave yards. "This budget does not have any provision for it", he remarked.
Tejashwi also asked why Union minister Giriraj Singh was not arrested despite the court's order to lodge an FIR against him.
"On whose pressure is the arrest not taking place. The government should give an answer," he said. He also alleged that soldiers killed in Kashmir had been insulted by the government. "The budget has no provisions for families of martyred soldiers," he said, recalling that he had gone to console their families.
