Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Friday said younger son Tejashwi Yadav was the party's most eligible candidate for chief minister for the next Assembly elections, due in 2020.

"He (Tejashwi) is a young and energetic leader having all the qualities to become a chief minister. As of now we have not taken any decision on this (on who would become the CM candidate) but Tejashwi is the most eligible chief ministerial face for 2020," Lalu said, replying to a question from The Telegraph on whether Tejashwi will be the contender for the top post.

Lalu, however, was quick to add that it would eventually be the people who will decide. "Will you stop him from becoming the chief minister if destiny wants it?" he said.

Lalu said he sees no competition within the RJD over the CM's post. "There's no tussle in the party on who would become the chief minister though elections are far away. Tejashwi has become more mature than me. Plus he has all the qualities to become the chief minister," Lalu said.
