Patna: The RJD said on Tuesday that it will support N. Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party in the monsoon session of Parliament - which starts Wednesday - on according special status to Andhra Pradesh.
RJD MLA Bhola Yadav made the announcement after a three-member TDP delegation - Rajya Sabha members K. Ravindra Kumar and G. Mohan Rao and Lok Sabha MP Jayadev Galla - visited Lalu Prasad, who is recuperating after surgery, at home in Patna to ask about his health.
Bhola said the TDP leaders wanted to meet RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, but as he was away they submitted a memorandum, "Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act Assurances: A saga of broken promises", to him (Bhola) and sought the RJD's support.
"Once Tejashwi ji comes back, the document will be given to him following which he would ask our MPs in both Houses of Parliament to support the TDP demand," Bhola said.
The RJD has four members in the Lok Sabha and five in the Rajya Sabha.
The TDP memorandum talks of the 10 promises made at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The party - which broke away from the BJP-led NDA over the issue - claims that none of these promises has been fulfilled and Andhra has also been denied special status.
Bhola said the RJD wanted a broad anti-BJP front for the Lok Sabha election.
"The TDP was part of the NDA till a few months back. After being ill-treated by the BJP, which didn't fulfil its promise regarding Andhra Pradesh, it (the TDP) walked out of the alliance. We are for bringing all such political forces under one umbrella," Bhola added.
The TDP on Sunday had tried to rope in the Shiv Sena, another NDA member whose relationship with the BJP has soured of late, but Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray did not meet the TDP delegation.
"We also wanted to meet JDU president Nitish Kumar but he was busy in some official meetings," Rao said. "Hence, we called on the RJD leaders only. We are thankful to the party for its support to our cause."
