Tax breather for defaulters

The new property tax rules have provided relief to people allowing complete waiver of the interest and penalty amount on arrears accumulated till March 31, 2013.

There is a however a rider. "Residents have to submit the tax amount in one go and they need to submit it within February 1 and March 31 this year," PMC commissioner Abhishek Singh said.

He said notification regarding the new rules was issued by the civic body on Friday.

The PMC will impose fines on those found littering streets from February-end. The decision regarding this was earlier approved in the PMC's standing committee meeting on January 10.

On Saturday, the decision was finally approved in the PMC's board meeting.

"The corporation would soon issue public notices to residents in which people would be given a month's time after which the gazette notification would be issued. The PMC would start imposing fine on the violators after issuing the notification. We are expecting that the notification related work would be done by February-end," said commissioner Singh.

According to the PMC's decision, while residents and makeshift stall owners would have to pay Rs 100 as fine if they are caught dumping garbage at will, for small and big business establishments, the fine amount had been kept at Rs 200 and Rs 500, respectively.
