Tainted principal files bail petition

The suspended principal of DAV BSEB School, Ramanuj Prasad, on Wednesday filed an anticipatory bail petition in the court of district and sessions judge pertaining to a case of forgery and examination racket.

The suspended principal of DAV BSEB School, Ramanuj Prasad, on Wednesday filed an anticipatory bail petition in the court of district and sessions judge pertaining to a case of forgery and examination racket.

Prasad's plea would be taken up for hearing on Thursday. His lawyer filed the anticipatory bail petition.

An FIR was lodged against Prasad at Shastri Nagar police station on the basis of a written complaint of its station house officer Ramesh Prasad Singh on March 18. According to the FIR, Prasad ran an examination racket.

He was allegedly part of a racket that promoted students in lieu of money. A source said the members of the racket used to ask the students failing in the Class XI examination to pay a certain amount. After receiving the payment, they tampered with the students' records and promoted them to Class XII, making them eligible to appear in the board examination.

Prasad's name got dragged into the case after three arrested teachers of the institution claimed that he was running an examination racket. The trio were arrested the day a missing girl student of the school was recovered from Patna Junction.

The girl had gone missing from the school premises on February 28. She was recovered from the station on March 19.

The girl claimed after her recovery that she was confined and raped. The girl in her statement said that she had gone to the school on February 28 to give money to some of the schoolteachers, who had promised to manage things for her. She had reportedly failed in the Class XI examination last year.

After the girl went missing, her father accused the school of foul play and it led to arrest of the three schoolteachers. During the course of interrogation, said a source in the police, the trio revealed that they used to work according to the instructions of Prasad. They confessed that each student failing in Class XI were charged Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 for the undue favour - promotion to Class XII and the subsequent eligibility to appear in the board exam.

Following the confessional statement of the teachers, the police lodged an FIR against Prasad. He went underground to evade arrest after the case was lodged.
