Muzaffarpur, May 4: Suspended inspector of Kazi Mohammadpur police station, Baleshwar Prasad, was brought to Muzaffarpur on transit remand today. He was arrested from Hardoi district of Uttar Pardesh on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team lead by the station house officer of Ahiyapur police station, Amrendra Jha, went to Hardoi and arrested the suspended inspector.
Prasad had been evading arrest for sometime now. Five FIRs are lodged against him at the Kazi Mohammadpur police station, Sadar police station and Mithanpura police station for his alleged involvement in extortion of money from contractors and businessmen.
Inspector-general of police (IG) (Muzaffarpur zone) Gupteshwar Pandey had suspended him and ordered his arrest. Prasad was allegedly seen hobnobbing with Pinki Kumari, accused of embezzling huge money from banks and farmers in the name of providing Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
Pandey had accused Prasad of shielding Kumari who has not been arrested despite repeated orders by senior police officers.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muzaffarpur, Rajesh Kumar, told The Telegraph: “The departmental proceeding has been expedited against him.”
Prasad was removed from the investigation into KCC defalcation and the case was handed over to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) (headquarters) Manish Kumar.
Prasad ran into trouble when he issued threats to the DSP who was recording the statements of witnesses of the case in the district court.
The DSP headquarters complained about the inspector to the zonal IG and the SSP.
The IG took exception to the conduct of the inspector and suspended him.
