Bihar’s changing face will be the texture of tableaux of different state government departments at the August 15 parade at Gandhi Maidan.

Agriculture revolution and Dharahara village in Bhagalpur district, known for planting fruit-bearing trees in the name of every newborn daughter, are some of the tableaux selected by the cabinet co-ordination department for the parade. Artists from various places would soon start working on the tableaux of 10 government departments and agencies.

The themes of the tableaux would be depicting the development in various sectors through implementation of several schemes launched by the Bihar government. (See graphics)

Chief minister Nitish Kumar’s dream of serving “one Bihari dish on the platter of every Indian” would be depicted by the agriculture department tableau with the theme — rainbow revolution. The nodal officer of the department, A.C. Jain, said: “The theme will depict the development in Bihar in a kind of rainbow revolution, which the chief minister wants to bring in the state. However, the agriculture roadmap prepared by the government not only talks about the development in the field of agriculture but also in fields like animal farming, poultries and production of foodgrain. In Hindi, it is called Indradanushi Kranti.”

Information & public relations department would make a tableau on the theme Dharahara ki Van Putriya (Dharahara’s daughters of the forest). “There is a tradition in Dharahara of planting sapling after a girl child is born. It is a unique practice to encourage plantation, in which the fruits and plants are used for the education and marriage of the girl child. It will be a proud moment for our department to depict such a social cause,” said Durgesh Nandan, the director of information and public relations department.

The Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency would focus on solar energy with the theme Saurya Kranti Bihar ka Bhavishya (Solar revolution future of Bihar). “BREDA’s tableau would focus on how solar energy could become the future of Bihar. The theme of the art, culture and youth affairs department would be Rashtriya Yuva Utsav with the focus on youth power,” said district public relations officer S.K. Pandey. The tableaux would be made of thermocol and Plaster of Paris. Trucks have been parked in front of SK Memorial Hall, where artists would make the structure of the tableaux.
