Patna: State and national disaster rescue force teams searching for the SUV that plunged into the Ganga from the Gandhi Setu on Tuesday drew blank on Thursday as well, but the police now believe it was not a mishap but a suicide case.
Patna superintendent of police (east) Rajendra Singh Bheel said a teenager who had gone missing from the Kankarbagh area is still untraceable, and the cops believe the two cases are connected.
"The rescue teams failed to fish out the vehicle which plunged into the river on Tuesday morning. Also, there is no information about Aadarsh Kumar, the boy who went missing," Bheel said.
"Based on circumstantial evidence and video footage from spot, we believe that Aadarsh was in the vehicle. However, until the vehicle or the boy is recovered we cannot confirm."
Police sources said they believe Aadarsh (14), son of Kankarbagh-based businessman Bipin Kumar Singh, had an affair with a girl and might have committed suicide due to depression.
Aadarh had a long chat with the girl on a social networking site on Monday and later took her for a long drive in his father's SUV, police sources said.
"The boy had visited the girl's house at around 3.30am on Tuesday," an investigating officer said.
"They moved through different areas of the city. He dropped the girl back at her house at around 4.30am. As the boy's family members have blamed the girl and her family members over Aadarsh's sudden disappearance we have also talked to the girl, her mother and sister."
Police sources said Aadarsh had stopped going to school since July 25, and the cops believe that is because the boy was depressed probably over his affair.
However, sources close to Aadarsh's family said he was never keen on driving the SUV and was more fond of riding two-wheelers. Police sources said they were investigating why Aadarsh took the SUV.
The family, however, refuses to belive that Aadarsh killed himself.
Aadarsh's father Bipin said on Thursday: "Unless and until the vehicle is recovered I am not going to believe that my son committed suicide."
