Students pledge, make news

Seniors promise to do their duties diligently, some learn the art of bringing out a newspaper from a chart paper and others undergo check-up at a free health camp. Faryal Rumi reports

Usha Martin World School

Event: Investiture ceremony
Duration: One hour
Special attraction: The school organised an investiture ceremony on the Sampatchak campus. The programme started with a shlok followed by the school prayer. The school choir presented a welcome song. The assembly was addressed by school principal Anita Singh. She extended a warm welcome to the head of school and senior general manager of Usha Breco Limited, Tarun Singhal. The principal congratulated the selected members and briefed them about their responsibilities and duties. She discussed the qualities a leader should posses. She said: “Every child is a born leader, they just need to groom themselves.” Tarun Singhal said leadership is needed in all walks of life and a true leader should always cite an example with their actions. 

Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan

Event: Newspaper workshop
Duration: Daylong
Special attraction: A workshop for Bal Kilkari Newspaper July issue was organised on the Kilkari Patna campus. Around 25 children took part in this workshop with Ramakant Pandey, a forest expert. The subject of the workshop was forest and environment, especially plants and trees related to daily life.The children wrote on the topics. Apart from environment issues, students also made pages on family, government, education, health, art, and success story and society. They took up the responsibility of various columns and collected the final articles on the second day. On the third day, a Child Editorial Team selected the articles for publication. 

St Michael’s High School

Event: Free health check-up
Duration: One-and-a-half hours
Special attraction: St Michael's Alumni 
Association arranged a free mega health check-up camp in the auditorium of the school. Dr Manish Mandal, president-elect of the association and also the organising secretary of the camp, said: “The alumni association has given its schedule for the whole year to the school.” Students from classes I to VI took part. The students underwent ENT, dental and gastro check-up. Around 1,200 students were screened by 15 doctors. Shushil Kumar, secretary and Rakesh Singh, the association treasurer, were present with principal Fr Peter and vice-principal Fr Armstrong Edition.
