Patna, Nov. 9: A few Jackson Hostel boarders assaulted a resident of Minto Hostel this afternoon when he tried to come in rescue of one of his buddies being allegedly harassed by the former.
Suraj Kumar, a first-year student of political science at Patna College, sustained injuries in his face and eyes. FIR has been lodged against Dharmendra Pratap and Ranjeet Kumar — both boarders of Jackson Hostel — for their involvement in the incident.
Sources said some Jackson Hostel boarders were bullying a few Patna College day scholars, including Suraj’s friend, this afternoon. The victim was passing by the spot around 1pm, when a heated altercation ensued.
When Suraj tried to broker peace, the boarders of Jackson Hostel started beating him up. They fled finding Suraj bleeding profusely.
Suraj told The Telegraph: “I intervened in the altercation because one of my friends, Nitish, was being harassed by the boarders of Jackson Hostel. But I was beaten up.”
After some time, Suraj limped back to his hostel and narrated the incident to his fellow boarders. Irked over the assault of Suraj, some Minto Hostel boarders rushed to the Patna College principal’s chamber for justice.
The principal, Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, was attending a seminar at Darbhanga House then. But receiving information about the incident, he returned to his office and gave a patient hearing to the Minto Hostel boarders.
Suraj’s hostel-mates demanded strict action against the boarders of Jackson Hostel involved in the incident.
The Patna College principal said: “Strict action would be taken against the students who assaulted Suraj.”
Later in the day, a visibly shocked Suraj said: “This is not the first incident of Jackson Hostel boarders targeting residents of Minto Hostel. They assaulted Minto boarders several times earlier also.”
Ban on entry
The Patna University administration today barred its three former students from entering the campus. A notice has been issued against them.
The trio — Tammana, Tanveer Ahmad and Varun Choudhary had misbehaved with vice-chancellor S.N. Singh in the last week of August. An FIR was lodged against them.
