Governor Satya Pal Malik addressed the fresh graduates of Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, at the fourth convocation ceremony in Bhagalpur last Wednesday. He stressed on increasing farmers' income. Increasing agriculture output and giving farmers good price for their productivity is the need of the hour, he said.
Addressing the students, he advised the girls to be fearless and boys to concentrate on their studies.
Law grantCentral University South Bihar final-year BSc-LLB student Sanya Kishwar (picture left) has been awarded "best student" scholarship for her performance in the international round of the Third Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon Saarc Mooting Competition held at Lloyd Law College in Greater Noida from February 16-18.
She will get full financial assistance to pursue LLM from the Pennsylvania State University, said CUSB public relations officer Mudassir Alam. "Only two students, including Bhargavi Kannan from the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai, have got the scholarship."
Harsh pillMagadh University vice-chancellor Qamar Ahsan delivered a lecture on Tuesday at the conference hall of College of Commerce, Arts & Science in Patna on "Challenges before higher education".
He came down hard on the depressing scene of higher education in the state where libraries are ill-equipped, laboratories are crumbling, infrastructure is barely visible and the number of academic institutions negligible in the context of students. He strongly resolved to upgrade the academic institutions to stop the mass exodus of students.
Ahsan's lecture was followed by a question-answer session. As the audience threw questions at him, Ahsan handled them with humour and intellect.
Winning spiritAfter a week of sports extravaganza at Central University of South Bihar, the finals of women's and men's cricket was played at STF ground near the university premises on Saturday.
The women's A team beat the Team B by 17 runs.
Electing to bat first, Team A scored 86/4 runs in 10 overs. Pratika was the top scorer with 16 runs, followed by Mridul and Priya scoring 12 and 11 respectively. Chasing the target of 87 runs, Team B crumpled at 69 runs with a top score of 28 by Neha.
Team A's Divya was adjudged the Woman of the Match taking two wickets in 3 overs by giving away 16 runs.
The men's final was between the combined team of media and environmental science against the combined team of statistics, psychology and bioinformatics.
The media and environmental science team were defeated by two runs.
Batting first, the statistics, psychology and bioinformatics team scored 89/9 in 15 overs. Raghuwar was the top scorer with 24 runs. Opposing team's Satish team bowled an excellent four-over spell taking five wickets for 23 runs.
Chasing the target of 90 runs, Akshay scored 25 and Somnath 24 but failed to take their team across the finishing line.
Prabhat was adjudged Man of the Match.
