Students stage a protest at the head post office in Gaya on Tuesday. This is the third protest since August 23 over the shortage of Indian postal orders of Rs 10 and Rs 20 denomination. Hundreds of students, who need postal orders of Rs 40 to submit application forms of Railway Recruitment Board took part in the protest. Some of them pelted stones at the post office, breaking glass windows. The students also burnt tyres and blocked Gautam Buddha Road. The blockade was lifted after city deputy superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar arrived at the spot with anti-riot vehicles. “The postal orders are available at the head post office. So there is always a rush when any vacancy is advertised. Also, there is a paucity of the postal orders. As a result, we were forced to stage a protest,” said Ravi Kumar, a student. Senior postal superintendent KD Singh said: “An order of 1 lakh postal orders has been placed with New Delhi. Around 4,000 orders would be delivered on Wednesday.” Text by Alok Kumar, picture by Suman |
