Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday announced that all hamlets of Bihar has been electrified.

The achievement is major milestone in the journey of the state for achieving the ultimate goal of providing electricity connection to all the households of Bihar by the end of 2018.

The Friday's announcement came almost four months after Bihar electrified all its 39,073 revenue villages, which had been formally announced by the chief minister on December 27 last year. While sharing the achievement with the people of the state, Nitish had given the task to power company officials to complete the electrification work in all the habitations by April end.

At that time 25,626 hamlets out of the 1,06,249 habitations had been electrified and the power companies completed the work on April 30.

In Bihar, revenue villages consist of several hamlets and hence Nitish had set the target of hamlet electrification so that the benefit of electrification could reach every nook and corner of the state.

Speaking at a function organised to mark the completion of hamlet electrification, the chief minister recalled his 2012 Independence day speech in which he had promised to improve the power scenario in the state and said: "It is a moment of pride for Bihar. The promise has been fulfilled."

Nitish also expressed hope that the power companies would achieve the goal of electrification of all households by the year-end and also reminded the officials it was not a decision but a resolve of the government.

Power connection to all households is one of the seven resolves of the state government. Nitish said it was a matter of pride for the state that the Centre adopted its household electrification scheme and launched a similar scheme for the country.

In the Friday's function, the chief minister also dedicated various infrastructure-related works of power companies worth Rs 1,110.07 crore and he inaugurated works worth Rs 592.59 crore. Nitish also laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 1,948.17 crore on the occasion.

Also, the Nitish government launched the commencement of work worth Rs 2,827.51 crore which entails re-conductoring of 71,673km-long distribution lines.

Addressing the participants, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said the achievement in the power sector is like a dream coming true and he had never imagined the state would witness such a positive change in the sector.

Energy minister Bijendra Yadav and Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited chairman Pratyaya Amrit, too, shared their views at the event in which performing officials and vendors were felicitated.
