Motihari, Jan. 8: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has seized 9kg Nepalese charas from Kaurihar Chowk locality in the bordering Raxaul town last night.
The seizure is SSB’s first major success this year, said a report from Raxaul here on Saturday.
The cost of the contraband is valued nearly Rs 9 lakh in the international market, said assistant commandant of SSB at Raxaul, Ajay Pandey.
He said that the SSB acted on a tip-off and a team of securitymen in plain clothes checked an abandoned rickshaw near a canal and recovered the contraband from under the seat.
He told The Telegraph that the rickshaw carrying the contraband had passed through the customs check post around 9pm and entered the town.
By the time the Sashastra Seema Bal team reached the canal in Kaurihar Chowk, the rickshaw puller had managed to escape taking advantage of the dark.
Pandey told The Telegraph that the SSB was vigilant following information by the intelligence agencies some time ago regarding the growing demand of contraband among students of metropolitan cities in the recent times.
The assistant commandant said the contraband along with the rickshaw was taken to the SSB camp.
He assured that the mastermind behind the racket would be nabbed soon.
