Patna, April 14: Promising sportspersons of Bihar have reasons to cheer.
The police headquarters has requested the government to create sports quota for recruitment in the home department .
According to the proposal sent to the home department on April 13, 2012, sportspersons — male and female — with distinguished achieve-ments in state, national and international-level championships will be appointed as constables, sub-inspectors and deputy superintendents of police. Of the total vacancies, 1.5 per cent have been earmarked for sportspersons.
The police headquarters would fill up one per cent of the vacancies.
The rest will be filled up by district superintendents of police/senior superintendents of police through state, national rural sports and games in the ranks of constable and sub-inspector.
The sportspersons of 17 games and sports, approved by the All India Police Sports Control Board, will be eligible for the posts.
The games and sports include basketball, football, hockey, handball, kabaddi, wrestling, boxing, athletics, weightlifting, aquatics, equestrian, gymnastic, judo, archery, taekwondo and shooting.
The appointments will be done under supervision of a three-member sports committee headed by the director-general of police (DGP).
DGP Abhayanand said: “The motive is to promote sports at grassroots level.”
