Songs usher in Christmas cheer

The Patna Women’s College education department organised a Christmas programme on Tuesday.

Trainee teachers of the department presented a colourful programme, which began with the lighting of the inaugural lamp by principal Sister Marie Jessie, Carmel Vikas Convent superior Sister Iris and head of the department Upasana Singh. A dance performance on Hey prabhu mann was followed by a Hindi carol —  Chup hai chanda.

A dance performance on Jhumo nacho khushi se was performed by the trainee teachers. A skit — Yeshu Janmotsav — was put up to show how god took the form of a human being to save the world from sin. This was followed by a carol —Angel’s we have heard on high and a joyful dance.  Faculty members Komal and Samreen Kausar conducted the programme.
 The principal shared a story on Christmas. She spread the message of forgiveness and generosity. The programme ended with Jingle bells and all the trainees joined Santa for a dance celebrating Christmas.

Jigyasa, a trainee teacher, said: “We enjoyed a lot and got to know about the significance of the day.”

Talk on environment

Students’ Forum for Environment (a group under Tarumitra, a non-government organisation) organised Eco Fest at Tarumitra Ashram on Saturday.

Students’ Forum for Environment got a special consultative status from United Nations in 2005. 

Three different events including photography, a group discussion and a treasure hunt were organised.

Himanshu Pandey, a first year student of Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP), won the first prize in group discussion.

Around 15 participants from different institutes in Patna, such as Indian Institute of Technology, Birla Institute of Technology, CIMP, Patna Women’s College and St Xavier’s College, were invited to participate in the event. 

V. Mukunda Das, director of CIMP, said: “CIMP encourages students to come up with ideas and always provides them with necessary guidance and every kind of support.”

Field day for girls

Patna Women’s College organised a sports meet on the campus on Saturday. 

The programme began with the hoisting of the college flag. The chief guest of the event was art, culture and youth affair minister (Bihar) Shivchandra Ram.

College principal Marie Jessie talked about the importance of sports and encouraged the students with an inspirational story during her inaugural address.

Shivchandra urged students to take part in college sports and extend their participation to the national level. 

Yoga, umbrella drills, aerobics, rhythmic dance, dandiya and surya namaskar were performed by the students. 

Students also took part in various races like cycling, sack race, three-legged race, 100m and 200m sprints, relay race, hurdle race and high jump. 

Roshni Kumar, a graduation student, said: “It was a fun event and we took part in it with zeal and enthusiasm. I am really proud to represent my department”.
