Bhagalpur, June 27: The arrival of forensic experts from Patna yesterday to investigate the mysterious murder of businessman Bimlendu Kumar Gupta could not help Bhagalpur police find any clue.

Sunita Devi, Gupta’s wife, who sustained serious injuries at the hands of her husband’s killers on the night of June 24 and was subsequently rushed to Patna Medical College and Hos- pital, is the last hope for the investigators.

“She is our last hope as she is the only eyewitness in the case. We are waiting for her recovery so that she spells out what exactly happened that night,” said a senior police officer, on condition of anonymity.

Police sources said Sunita Devi’s condition has been improving but her condition is still critical. “We are in regular touch with the doctors. They will inform us as soon as she is able to speak so that our officials go to Patna to record her statements,” the police officer added.

More than two days have passed since the murder but the police have no clue whatsoever. The sleuths have now started avoiding mediapersons.

“Investigations are on and as soon as we get any vital information we will convey it to you,” was the brief reply of Vijay Kumar Verma, the city superintendent of Bhagalpur police.

Forensic experts who arrived here yesterday collected evidence and samples from the place of occurrence and returned to Patna for their clinical examination.

The team collected samples of bloodstains on the bricks used in the murder, empty liquor bottles and other items from the house.

A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that another team of forensic experts from Patna would arrive soon to investigate the case from other angles.

Senior police officers interrogated Gupta’s son, daughter and granddaughter and his employees separately.

The officers, however, suspected someone close to the family had plotted the killing.

“Not even a single item was lost from the Gupta residence, which suggested that the murder was for settling some old scores. Attempts might be made on Sunita Devi’s life as she is the lone eyewitness in the case,” the officer said.

The sleuths checked Gupta’s bank accounts, business transaction records, old family disputes and other personal matter and all murder cases in the city in the past three to four years.
