Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (Breda) would install solar power plants of 10KW on the rooftops of all the 534 block offices across the state.
Breda was established in 1987 to promote development of non-conventional energy sources in Bihar.
It is one of the premier organisations working in the field of renewable energy development and energy conservation. Breda is also the nodal agency for the ministry of new and renewable energy sources in Bihar.
'To reduce dependence on traditional source of energy, the agency has taken a decision to install solar power plants of 10KW on the rooftops of all the 534 block offices across the state,' Breda deputy director Raj Mohan Jha said, adding that the agency has sent its proposal to the rural development department for approval.
He was interacting with the members of Bihar Industries Association (BIA) on renewable source of energy on its premises on Friday. The deputy director added that the agency has also got the nod to install 6,000 units of solar power plants of 1KW each on the rooftop of individual households. Each solar plant would cost around Rs 1.5-2 lakh but installation of such plants become easier, as government provides subsidy of 80 per cent on such solar plants.
Jha said the Union finance ministry in association with the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) is working on a proposal under which a home loan would be sanctioned only on the condition of having rooftop solar plant. This would also be applicable in the state.
Jha, while admitting that little has been done on the ground, said Breda has taken a slew of measures and initiatives in the past two years. 'The agency has installed 25KW solar plants at various district collectorates, district hospitals, circuit houses,' he said, adding that 100KW solar plant has been installed at the chief minister's official residence 1 Aney Marg, Vidyut Bhavan, Chief Justice's residence and many more places.
While assuring BIA members, the deputy director said the government is providing subsidy and promoting common people and farmers to use solar plants to illuminate their households and run pumping sets to irrigate lands.
Its president Arun Agarwal and other office-bearers represented BIA and representative of centre for environment and energy development's (CEED), an NGO working in the field of renewable energy was also present.
CEED in association with Confederation of Indian Industry on January 22 released its report stating that Patna has the potential to generate 760MW of solar power. Patna, the report stated, can generate 277MW of solar power by the end of 2025 in the first phase by using roof space. It would help overcome the problem of outages for hours in some parts of the city.
