India Post is celebrating National Postal Week from October 9 to October 15 by dedicating each day of the week to newly introduced services aimed at improving quality of customer service.

Unveiling the postal week on Tuesday, state director, India Post, Anil Kumar said: “This year, we are emphasising on the improvement of quality and monitoring of postal services such as speed post, registered post, online complaints and money transfer.” He added that 3.1 crore new accounts have been opened and the state post offices have contributed double the revenue than they did last year.

World Post Day is celebrated on October 9 to mark the establishment of Universal Postal Union at Berne, Switzerland, in 1874.

The chief postmaster general of Bihar circle, India Post, Kaveri Banerjee on Tuesday announced that the short messaging service (SMS) for money order would be introduced shortly. “When the money order is booked, the sender and the receiver would receive a text message each with information about its present status,” explained Banerjee.

In December, India Post will introduce core-banking solution in collaboration with TCS, Infosys, Reliance and Sify to enable customers to send or receive cash in any part of the country by showing the code messaged on their mobiles by India Post. The online tracking facilities have been introduced in the registered post and parcel post too.

International parcels will reach their destinations in five days, the minimum charges being Rs 600.
