Patna, Jan. 26: Twenty-six-year-old Shristi Jain knew Vaishali-based Rajneesh Kumar Singh for quite some time and that might have convinced her family to allow her to come alone to Patna.

Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said: "The case can be considered solved. The suspects only need to be arrested. Teams are raiding different places and he cannot be on the run for long. The girl knew Rajneesh and had come to Patna earlier too. More details will emerge once he is nabbed."

Rajneesh, along with his friend Rahul, had shot Shristi dead on Monday.

Shristi's younger sister, Shagun, however, denied the police claims. "My sister had never gone to Patna earlier. Rajneesh had claimed that he was preparing for UPSC examinations besides coaching some students there. I don't know why our parents allowed Shristi to go to Patna alone. My parents have left for Patna and I cannot get in touch with them at this moment. My sister had said that if required, she would call my parents to Patna. But the day she was killed, she had called up to say that she was coming home and that Rajneesh was not a good man. I cannot say anything more," Shagun told The Telegraph over the phone.

Shristi was on her way to Patna Junction by auto on Monday afternoon to catch a train to her hometown Indore, when she was shot dead. She died on the spot while the two suspects, who had shot her thrice, fled on a white motorbike.

The police said on Tuesday that the Jains were yet to reach Patna.

Another police officer said: "Till now, they have not contacted the police. The girl's body has been preserved after post-mortem. The girl had come to Patna by air on January 23. Rajneesh had possibly arranged the tickets. The duo checked into the Jakkanpur-based Mani International Hotel in separate rooms. The girl was working in a finance company in Delhi and had directly come to Patna. The fact that she was allowed to go to Patna by her parents alone raises doubts. There is a possibility that the parents knew about Rajneesh and hence, they allowed her to come here. Of the many tattoos the girl had on her arms, one read: 'Some love one, some love two. I love one, that is you.' Another reads 'RS', which we suspect to be Rajneesh's initials. Hence, we believe they knew each other for long."

Earlier, it was reported that the duo knew each other through a matrimonial website.

The officer added: "Rajneesh might have duped her. Her family has said that Rajneesh had claimed to Shristi that he owned a bike showroom in Patna and that his daily income was Rs 1 lakh. We have recorded statements of the hotel employees, who overheard the duo having heated arguments. The girl was prepared to leave on January 25, when Rajneesh came. There was another round of heated arguments after which Shristi told Rajneesh to leave her alone and boarded the auto. We believe that Rajneesh then decided to kill her."
