The sixth accused in the June 14 Rajvanshi Nagar gangrape case was arrested on Wednesday from Manigachi village of Darbhanga, 120km northeast of Patna.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amrit Raj told The Telegraph that a police team has brought him to the state capital and he will be produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) on Thursday.

“The man has been arrested and he will be produced before the court tomorrow. Before that, the police will question him,” the SSP said.

On July 30, the police had said the sixth accused, who was a domestic help at the Rajvanshi Nagar-based flat that belongs to one of the accused, was among the group who had allegedly raped the minor girl.

The police added that the person, whose age has not been disclosed yet, was introduced to the girl by a different name. The girl, in her statement before the CJM court, had said seven persons, including her boyfriend had raped her.

The cops are silent on the identity of the seventh accused.

Earlier, officers pointed out that with at least two of the accused sent to the remand home, the police believed on the basis of their investigations that only one among them was a minor.

“All the accused have other names than their original ones and the police are verifying whether their second names are true or were just imaginary ones used in confusing the girl in case she came to the police. Though two of the accused have been forwarded to the remand home, the police have got the information that only one among them, who blackmailed the girl and also prepared the CD and the MMS clips, is a minor,” the SSP had said earlier.

The boyfriend of the victim, who had hatched the plan in a “fit of rage and revenge”, was sent to the remand home a couple of days ago.
