Patna, April 1: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is considering making senior IAS officer C.K. Anil an accused in the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) question paper leak case, following revelations made by Anandpreet Singh Brar, who was tasked with printing of the papers, sources involved in the probe said.

The sources said that Anil, a 1991 batch IAS officer posted as officer on special duty in the BSSC, failed to turn up before the SIT even after several notices were served on him. He had even not responded to emails, thus hampering the ongoing investigation.

"The revelations made by Brar, also an accused in the case, have provided sufficient proof to show his (Anil's) complicity in the question paper leak scam," an investigating officer said on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media. "Brar, responsible for preparing the OMR sheets of the four-phase clerical grade examination, was sent to Beur jail after his 48-hour police remand ended on Friday evening."

The officer said the SIT had evidence to make Anil an accused in the scam. Brar said Anil had his say in every important decision taken by former commission chairman Sudhir Kumar, who has been arrested. Every file was routed through him (Anil), said the officer who is not authorised to talk to journalists.

Brar reportedly told the interrogators that Anil had met him in Delhi after the arrest of Sudhir, a 1987 batch IAS officer, in the case. Investigators had earlier told The Telegraph that Brar's role should have been limited only to the preparation of the OMR (optical mark recognition) sheets, but he also knew the printer of the question papers. This, the SIT sleuths say, is a breach of secrecy and gives them one vital clue of the origin of the leak.

Another source said forensic reports even suggest that Sudhir's application for leave was written by Anil, as Sudhir had then gone into hiding fearing his arrest. Sudhir was later arrested from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand on February 24. He was produced in a Patna court and is now lodged in Phulwarisharif jail.

SIT chief and Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj said Brar was quizzed to ascertain certain information, which the investigators had earlier obtained from sources. "Our probe is based on scientific evidence and not merely on the statements of the accused," he said.

Sources said a team is camping in Maharashtra to locate Anil. The police team, which had gone to Delhi in search of the IAS officer, returned empty-handed as he was not found there. Anil's close relative is a senior IPS officer in Maharashtra.
