Bhagalpur, July 18: Sunita Devi, the wife of murdered industrialist Bimalendu Gupta, remained mute on the involvement of their son in the crime.

The sole witness of the murder, Sunita did not mention the involvement of her son Amiyashree, who was arrested after cops claimed that they had enough evidence to prove he was involved in the crime.

Gupta was found murdered at his residence at Kutchery Chowk on June 24. His face was smashed with bricks and Sunita, who was in the same room, suffered serious injuries. She was sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment.

“The sole witness in the incident, Sunita, has started suppressing facts to save her son. She has already lost her husband and does not want to put her son in trouble,” a senior district police officer told The Telegraph.

According to sources, Sunita, who was in coma since the incident, gave her statement to the group of Bhagalpur police who were deployed at PMCH.

Sources said Sunita in her statement told the police that the incident occurred between 10.30pm and 11pm on June 24. “I was watching television while my husband was sleeping. Suddenly four persons entered the house and started demanding documents of my husband’s factory. After I refused, they started beating me with a brick. They also thrashed my husband, who was still asleep. I lost my senses after I saw my husband fall on the ground,” the source quoted Sunita as saying.

Sunita said apart from the four assailants inside, she heard footsteps of other people outside the house.

The sources said Sunita Devi did not mention any name, nor did she mention the involvement of any family member in the incident.

“She is avoiding her son as well as her daughter. After she was released from PMCH, she arrived in Bhagalpur yesterday evening and went to her close relative’s place at Barbighha in Sheikhpura district,” the cop said.

The Gupta family had returned to Bhagalpur on June 24 after attending a marriage ceremony at Amiyashree’s in-law’s house at Raniganj in Bengal. After returning, Bimalendu went to his room, while his son went to his.

Amiyashree came out of the house later to purchase cigarettes from Kutchery Chowk. After he returned home, he reportedly locked the main gate of the house. He also asked his mother to lock the door upstairs.

“Sunita has mentioned four persons. How did they enter the house if all doors, except the one on the roof, were closed? Someone must have kept the door open,” the source said.
