Patna, July 21: A station house officer (SHO) got a taste of mob fury yesterday when the members of a family allegedly assaulted him and later a crowd of protesters created ruckus in the police station against the arrest of a person.

Jyoti Prakash, the SHO of the Kadamkuan police station, was beaten up at a house in Rajendra Nagar area around 10pm, the police said.

According to sources, one Lallan Pandey had lodged an FIR against Nityanand Singh (brother of Hridayanand Singh, an engineer with the state irrigation department), a week ago, accusing him of misbehaviour and assault.

Last evening, the SHO went to Nityanand’s residence to arrest him. There he was allegedly beaten up and his uniform was torn by agitated family members.

The police later arrested Nityanand and brought him to the police station where the local residents created a ruckus, accusing the police of misbehavior.

Nityanand alleged that the police misbehaved with his family members, including the women, when they came to his house with the arrest order.

Police sources, however, said the family resisted the arrest and in the process allegedly assaulted the SHO.
