Patna, March 16: The elderly showed their golf skills on the turf and proved how agility on the greens can help defy advancing age.

The 57th All India Inter-Railway Golf Championship, organised by the East Central Railway Sports Association at Patna Golf Club on Saturday, saw around 110 players from across the country take part in the tournament.

Retired chief mechanical engineer of Central Railway, Mumbai, Chiranjiv Singh (76), seemed happy after participating in the game. “Perhaps, I am the oldest person in this tournament. It’s sheer passion that drives me play the game at this age,” said Singh.

Singh, who has been playing for 55 years, remained composed throughout the game. “I have gained immense experience over these years. I can give tough competition to my younger generation,” he added with a smile.

Former director of Indian Railways Institute of Electrical Engineering, Nasik, K.C. Govil (73) started playing the game after retirement. “Earlier, I used to play badminton and tennis. But I got hooked to golf after I started playing it after my retirement. Unlike other sports, age is not a factor while playing golf,” Govil said.

Omprakash Singh, one of the organisers, said: “Apart from 14 national players, four railway general managers and 19 retired general managers are also taking part.”

The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
