Gaya, Oct. 12: The district administration today decided to throw a security blanket around the Mahabodhi Mahavihara in the wake of the terror strike threat. The arrangements would be in place by the end of October.

A team of senior police officials from Gaya would soon visit New Delhi to gather inputs regarding the threat to the shrine. Delhi police nabbed three suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists on Thursday, who cops said, had plans to attack the Mahavihara.

District magistrate (DM)-cum-Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) chairperson Bandana Preyashi, Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vinay Kumar, BTMC officials and other police officers today visited the shrine to review the present security arrangements.

The DM told The Tele- graph that security of not only the shrine but that of other monasteries in and around Bodhgaya, would be tightened.

SSP Kumar said a proposal to ban the entry of all electronic gadgets would be moved. A counter towards the eastern end of the campus has already been set up for collection of electronic gadgets. A decision to ban cameras on the campus has not yet been taken.

Bodhgaya police station would monitor the security around the Mahavihara and monasteries of different countries through closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs), which would be installed in 15 days. The number of CCTVs would be increased on the campus too. Signage would be placed at hotels, monasteries and other places in Bodhgaya, indicating items banned inside the Mahavihara to avoid any confusion. Apart from raising the height of boundary walls, lighting system would be improved. Two new permanent police outposts — one at Domuhan and another near the Gaya-Bodhgaya riverside road — would be opened. Five door-frame metal detectors, installed at the two entry gates on the east, were found operational. The DM has directed that the two gates on the west be permanently closed, except during emergency.

“The review found a shortage of woman cops. Two were immediately deployed on the campus. The cops would check any woman suspect inside a cabin,” the DM said. Entry of any type of bag on the campus has been banned and frisking of visitors prior to entry has been intensified.
