Patna: Patna Junction and Rajendranagar Terminal both will have integrated security system in place soon.

Under the integrated security system, 117 cameras will be installed at Patna Junction while 52 cameras will be installed at Rajendranagar Terminal. This will enable the railway protection force (RPF) to ensure safety at these two stations.

Chandra Mohan Mishra, Danapur RPF commandant, said: "We are in the process of making the security system at both these railway stations more efficient and modern. Based on the report of a high-level committee and in consultation with the Zonal Railways, 202 stations countrywide, including Patna, have been identified as sensitive for the purpose of installation of an integrated security system to strengthen surveillance mechanism at these stations. An integrated security system comprises closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, access control, personal and baggage screening system and bomb detection and disposal system."

Once the integrated security system is installed at Patna Junction and Rajendranagar Terminal, it would be taken up at other important stations falling under the zone, Mishra added.

Mishra said: "Under the integrated security system, all the high-definition cameras will be equipped with zoom and night-vision technology. These cameras with the help of video analytical software will recognise faces with ease.

Apart from this, it will also help in giving information about the baggage lying abandoned on the station premises. This will help the officers sitting in the control room to have constant watch on any suspicious activities or persons and can accordingly pass orders."

Specially trained sniffer dogs will also be put in service at both these stations which will help in locating detonating devices hidden in bags anywhere within the vicinity of the station premises, Mishra added. The railways will also install door-frame metal detectors at both stations, sources said, keeping in mind the safety of passengers.

Under the integrated security system, both the railway stations will be equipped with modern security equipment, including luggage scanners and under-vehicle scanners, a railway official said.
