The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the transfer of about 300 acres of land for the ambitious Ganga Driveway, a 20.5-km-long road along the banks of the river connecting west Patna with the east.
A source said the cabinet put its seal on the proposal of the revenue and land reforms department to handover 300 acres of land to the road construction department for the project.
The four-lane driveway would provide a hassle-free connectivity between west and east Patna. While the western end of the road would start near Digha Ghat, its eastern end would be at Didarganj. The new road would bring down the travel time between the two ends of the city from the existing two hours to just 25 minutes.
The proposed driveway would have a 7.6-km elevated stretch between Collectorate Ghat and Gai Ghat. There would also be a provision of providing connectivity of the driveway with the existing road (Ashok Rajpath) that runs parallel to the proposed road. The total cost of Ganga driveway project is Rs 2,234.46 crore.
Besides the land transfer of the driveway project, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 70.35 crore and Rs 73.96 crore for salary payment of teaching and non-teaching employees of Rajendra Agriculture University, Pusa, and Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, respectively.
