Patna, Oct. 9: Private schools would register their pro- test against the state government’s directive to seek recognition afresh at a convention under the banner of Co-Ordination Committee of Public School Associations of Bihar at SK Memorial Hall on October 16.

Shamael Ahmad, the president of Private Schools and Children Welfare Association, said: “The private schools would plan their next move at the state-level convention at SK Memorial Hall. Why should we go for registration? The state government has said strict action would be taken against the private schools not seeking the government recognition by November 12. Around 25,000 private schools across the state are ready to face it.”

Ahmad said the private schools across the state had registered their protest by remaining closed on September 28.

D.K. Singh, the chairman of Bihar Public Schools and Children Welfare Association, said: “The representatives of around 1,000 schools vowed to not to bow before the state human resource development (HRD) department’s directive on seeking recognition at a meeting at Ambedkar Bhavan in Gopalganj on October 9. If the state government pressurises the schools for registration, we will hit the streets with children and guardians after the state-level convention on October 16.”

While the private schools are determined to not to seek recognition from the state government, the chairperson of the Bihar State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Nisha Jha, said: “If the schools have any problem with the registration process, they should be having a meeting with the state government. We are working on the format of the registration and many clauses do not apply to the private schools. The institutions should not announce that they would not go for the registration.”

The private schools’ recognition issue has snowballed into a tussle between the state government and the institutions. Several private schools went on strike on September 28 to register their protest against the state HRD department’s directive.

Initially, the deadline to seek the recognition was September 30. It was extended it to November 12 later.
