At least 48 vehicles have been seized since last week in Motihari following a drive to keep tabs on residents violating Motor Vehicles Act.
The police and the district transport departments have jointly launched the drive under the leadership of deputy superintendent of police Manoj Kumar.
Sources said the scanner would be on rash drivers and motorists not carrying necessary documents.
“The seizure included motorbikes, autorickshaws, trucks and tractors,” district transport officer Dinesh Kumar Rai said, adding many motorists were held for found travelling without documents such as pollution certificates, insurance certificate, road permit and licences.
Rai said Rs 2.25 lakh has been collected as fine from the traffic violators. He added that the administration was keeping an eye on people driving cars with tinted windows and without number plates and motorcyclists not wearing helmets. A detailed chart has been prepared to implement penalties from violators of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Rai said the drive would continue in the district to check criminals from taking advantage of the porous India-Nepal border. Town inspector Ramashish Kamti said the increasing incidents of bike thefts in the district were a cause of concern for the police. The drive will continue in the other towns of the district.
