The 17-year-old, who complained of severe body ache, went to the emergency department of the Patna Medical College and Hospital around noon on Tuesday. The teenager has to appear for his business studies paper on Wednesday. The exams continue till the end of March.
Sumit said: “I narrated my problems to the doctor who asked me to undergo a CT scan. After waiting in the queue, my turn came around 3.30pm. After an hour, I received the CT scan plate. The doctor has said that I have suffered external injuries and has suggested me to meet a brain specialist. Waiting at the hospital, I could not take medicines in the afternoon. So, I am not feeling good. I reached home around 5.30pm and am running a fever now.”
Asked about appearing for Wednesday’s examination, Sumit said: “My father has given me the permission to decide whether I would sit for tomorrow’s (Wednesday) examination or not. He has said I can opt out of the exam but after all, it’s a matter that concerns my career.”
Rabindra Kumar Sinha, the teenager’s father, said: “Today, I met Nisha Jha, the chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She noted down the details of the case from me.”
Dr Kundan Kumar, a junior doctor at the health hub who examined the youth, said: “The teenager did not have any external or internal injury according to the CT scan. However, I have asked him to visit a neuro physician tomorrow (Wednesday).”
Another doctor at the health hub said: “The boy was referred to the neuro physician so that if he has any other problem it could be taken care of now. Else, it might create a problem in the future.”
Till late on Tuesday evening, Sumit was unsure whether he would be able to sit for the examination.
DAV, BSEB, principal Ramanuj Prasad refused to comment on the issue when contacted for comment.
The station house officer of Shastri Nagar police station Vidya Sagar said: “Investigation is on in the case.”
Earlier, Sumit had said he was standing outside the gates of DAV, BSEB, around 1.45pm on March 1 — the day the Plus-2 exams began — exchanging thoughts on the first paper, English Core.
He had kept his satchel on the seat of a motorcycle parked across the road. A teacher came out of the school and asked all students to leave the area.
Thereafter, Sumit and the teacher got into an argument and he was allegedly beaten up.
