Unsuccessful candidates who had appeared in the teachers' appointment examination of Bihar Agriculture University (BAU), Sabour in 2012 staged protests in front of Khalifabag Chak on Saturday, alleging large-scale irregularities in the appointments.
Two candidates had filed a right to information (RTI) request on December 13, 2012, seeking details of how their answer sheets were evaluated. The response came on April 10, 2015. The unrest among the unsuccessful candidates had been brewing since then.
The district unit of the BJP joined the protest against the ruling Grand Alliance government and former vice-chancellor Mewa Lal Choudhary, who is the sitting JDU MLA from Tarapur in Munger.
Local BJP leader and deputy mayor of the Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation Priti Sekhar said: "There were 166 candidates chosen against 281 vacancies. Nearly 2,500 candidates had appeared in the interview conducted by the varsity. While some of the gold medallists and PhD holders secured a paltry 0.1 out of 20, there were others, who were neither National Eligibility Test (NET) qualified nor PhD holders but secured a perfect 20 in the interview and Power Point presentations."
Despite several attempts, Choudhary could not be contacted.
