Patna, July 1: The RJD would have to deal with another dissenting voice, this time from one of the Muslim faces in the party.
A.A. Fatimi, who is the national president of RJD’s minority cell, has threatened to quit from all party posts if Lalu did not set things right with the party in Bihar.
“I am going to meet Laluji in a day or two to apprise him about certain RJD leaders who are hand-in-glove with the NDA in Bihar. If he takes action against these leaders, well and good, else I will quit all party posts I am holding,” Fatimi told The Telegraph over phone today.
His reactions have come a day after the RJD supported candidate lost the post for the district board chairman in Darbhanga. Though Fatimi did not reveal the names of the leaders who he held responsible for the party’s plight, he said: “One of them is holding a very important position in the party and the same person is playing a key role in ensuring the party’s poor performance in the Mithila region both in the Lok Sabha elections in 2009 and the Assembly elections in 2010.”
The RJD leader claimed that he had apprised Lalu about the anti-party activities of such leaders even in the past but he has taken no action. “If Laluji fails to take action against the leaders even this time, there would be no logic for me to hold the posts that the party has given me,” the former Darbhanga MP, who was also a junior Union minister in the UPA-I government at the Centre, said.
He, however, refused to comment whether he would continue to be a part of the RJD in case he quits from the party posts. “Any such decision will be taken after due consultation with my supporters. I will follow what my supporters tell me,” he said.
RJD Bihar unit president Ram Chandra Purbey expressed his surprise over the sudden outburst of Fatimi. “He (Fatimi) is a respected leader in our party. I would like to make it clear to him that none of our leaders are having any relations with the NDA.”
Purbey refused to accept that Fatimi had some confusions on this issue because of which he had identified certain leaders whom he believes to be hand-in-glove with the NDA. “There is no confusion on this issue and all of us have respect for our leader Lalu Prasad,” Purbey added.
RJD principal general secretary Ram Kripal Yadav said: “This is really unfortunate that one of our senior leaders is dissatisfied with certain things. We will discuss the issue within the party and will address the issues being raised by Fatimi.” Incidentally, it is a well-known fact within the RJD that Fatimi and the leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, do not share good terms and are not even on talking terms for a long time.
The RJD has been hit by dissenting voices from within the party ever since its debacle in last year’s Assembly elections. A number of its prominent leaders have openly aired their views about the party. The leaders include RJD MLC Naval Kishore Rai and MLA Maheshwar Yadav.
Both Rai and Yadav had attacked Lalu for his statements regarding Ramdev, where he had criticised the yoga practitioner for his hunger strike on the issue of corruption.
