Patna, May 10: A probable delay in declaration of CBSE Class X and XII results has rattled the students of the board.

Around 70,000 students have taken the Class XII exam this year, while more than 1.5 lakh students have taken the Class X examination.

S.U. Sorte, joint secretary-cum-regional officer, CBSE, Bihar-Jharkhand, said the board was trying its best to release the results by the end of this month.

Sources, however, said the results would not be published till the first week of June. Evaluation of English papers began only yesterday. Science papers, too, were sent for evaluation on Sunday.

Students, on the other hand, are dreading the fallout of the delayed results.

Many Class XII students, who have planned to move out of the city for higher studies, would now have to revise their plans.

Even Class X students, who wish to change schools or move out, will be affected.

Many of them said taking admissions in colleges would be difficult, as most institutions of higher education require students to submit original marksheets within a short period of time.

“If the board results are delayed, how will we apply to other colleges and institutes? All colleges require us to submit our board results,” said Kumar Shantanu, who has taken the Class XII CBSE exam this year.

A few others like Shantanu have a double whammy this year.

Besides delay in declaration of CBSE results, they will also have to take AIEEE on May 11, after the entrance exam was rescheduled, thanks to a rumour about the examination papers being leaked.

“The results for AIEEE were earlier supposed to be declared on May 16. But now, it will be delayed, as many students would be taking the entrance examination tomorrow. This will further delay our admission to engineering colleges,” added the distraught student.

He also said because of the dual delay many students would find themselves unable to meet the application deadline of a number of institutes. Some of them may even have to drop a year because of it.

Rohit Singh, another Class XII student, said: “I am afraid that I will miss out on some institutes as the results are likely to be delayed.”

He added: “Without the results we will not get admission in colleges outside the state.” He, too, has applied for a number of competitive examinations.

Hussain Abbas, another student, said: “I have applied for some competitive examinations, the results of which are expected this month. Among these, private institutions ask for the original marksheet within 15 days of applying to the institute. If a candidate fails to produce the marksheet, he or she is disqualified and the admission fee is not returned.”

Last year, CBSE Class XII results were declared on May 22 and Class X results were declared on May 28.
