Patna, Sept. 28: Residents of the state capital are still busy shopping for Durga Puja though the goddess and her children are almost knocking on the door.

Even at the last minute, the citizens are busy making trips to shops with their purse strings loosened. The shopkeepers are also ready to greet them with traditional and trendy wares. Clothes tailored to suit the latest fashion, shoes of fancy cuts, jewellery to dazzle the eye and accessories that warm the heart — you can pick them up at various showrooms and outlets.

Saris are the big hit this festive season. Those who prefer traditional wear can pick taant, kantha-stitch or heavy silk but options are not lacking for connoisseurs who like to experiment.

“This year, besides taant, jamdani cotton sarees, Brasso georgette, famous in Rajasthan, are also in great demand,” said Parveen Jindal, owner of Jai Bharat Vastralaya. She added: “The jamdani cotton is popular because it is light and comfortable. It is also not too strenuous on one’s purse as it is priced between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,100. Brasso georgette, too, is not very expensive. It is priced between Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000.”

Those who prefer an ostentatious look, however, would prefer to pick a sari with intricate brasso work. The prices of these begin at Rs 1,000 but can go up to Rs 9,000.

The perfect attire must have the perfect accessories.

This year, kantha handbags are the rage. Priced around Rs 250, these bags have been attracting women who prefer an ethnic look.

Kantha-stitch on clothes is well-known. However, it is really exciting to see it on handbags,” said Aloka Sen, a customer at a handicraft emporium. “It gives handicraft a modern look and is a good Puja gift for my mother.”
