The home department on Thursday transferred 101 police officers in the rank of deputy superintendent across the state, including all but one in Patna.

Patna City deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sushil Kumar is the only one who has managed to keep his current posting in the midst of the hurly-burly.

Sources said the reshuffle was essential because of a steep rise in the crime chart in Patna. “The DSPs are supposed to be the channel between the IPS officers — the superintendents of police and the senior superintendents of police — and the police stations. It was perceived that they have not been able to co-ordinate things as they should have,” a source said.

Among those transferred is DSP (law and order) Lalit Sharma, who will exchange posting with his Begusarai counterpart, Vivekanand. He had earlier served as Patna DSP (Sadar).

Ramakant Prasad, who was posted in Patna as DSP (Town), has been made the DSP (Special Task Force). Khagaria DSP Manoj Kumar Tiwary will replace Prasad.

Long time Sadar DSP Rashid Jamal has been shifted to Muzaffarpur. Mutaffiq Ahmed, who was earlier posted in Nalanda, will take his place.

Rakesh Dubey, who was DSP (Phulwari) as well as DSP (Sachivalaya), has been transferred as DSP (law and order) to Gaya. Imtiaz Ahmed — who held the post in Gaya earlier — will replace Dubey.

Manish Kumar Sinha, who was DSP (special branch), has been appointed as the new DSP (Sachivalaya).

Anil Kumar, who was the DSP (Danapur), has been transferred to the economic offences wing. Sushant Kumar, who was earlier posted in Motihari, will take his post.

A police source said: “This is a complete reshuffle. It sends a clear message that things need to be reorganised in the state capital to check the spurt in crime.”
