Chhapra/Patna, July 31: The court of Chhapra chief judicial magistrate Anil Kumar Jha today sent Gandaman Primary School principal Meena Devi to police remand for three days.

Police had asked for the same to conduct the polygraph test on the principal.

Sources said a polygraph test generally takes two days but the three-day remand was sought as a precautionary measure. The test is likely to be conducted on August 1 and 2. Experts from New Delhi would be available at the forensic science laboratory in Patna. A source in Chhapra said: “We plan to take Meena to Patna this evening.”

Today, Meena’s husband Arjun Rai also moved a petition in the court of Chhapra district judge Navniti Prasad seeking anticipatory bail. The court directed the police to submit the case diary.

The Congress meanwhile joined the opposition bandwagon demanding a CBI probe in the midday meal tragedy. Taking potshots at chief minister Nitish Kumar, state Congress president Ashok Chaudhary said: “We are demanding a CBI probe because the government has failed to take action in the case. Not a single official of the education department has been booked. The government is only talking about the conspiracy angle.”

Food poisoning

At least 22 children from a primary school in Arwal district’s Chamandih village were admitted to the Kurtha primary health centre after they ate their midday meal.

The doctors, treating the children, said they had food poisoning but are out of danger now. District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh, confirming that 22 children were admitted, told The Telegraph that all of them have been released.
