Patna: The traffic police have implemented a new plan for better management of traffic in Patna district.
Under the plan, which has been implemented from Monday and will continue for the next 15 days, the district has been divided into 39 sectors with each sector having a separate in-charge who will report to the deputy superintendent of police, traffic. The traffic superintendent of police (SP) will do the overall monitoring.
Earlier, the traffic SP used to deploy traffic jawans. Now, the sector in-charge in will. All the sector in-charges have been told to streamline traffic in their area of jurisdiction.
"We have taken several steps to streamline traffic in Patna but we were not getting satisfactory results," said traffic SP P.N. Mishra. "Now, we have decided to make some change in our own system and for the first time we are giving the power to the subordinate officers to deploy the traffic jawans as per requirement."
Every sector will have eight to 24 personnel.
Six major works have been allotted to the sector in-charge: ensuring regular attendance of personnel, traffic regulation, quick response in case of accidents, imposing penalty for violation of traffic rules, cracking down on illegal parking of vehicles, and keeping roads free of encroachment.
Bihar Military Police, district police, home guards, lady constables, and motorcycle-borne teams will be deployed for traffic management .
Soon, the traffic SP will send a requisition for a motorbike in every sector. At present 12 motorbikes have been deployed in as many sectors.
Every sector in-charge and traffic DSP have been asked to submit reports about traffic in the 15 days of the new plan.
