District magistrate Abhay Kumar Singh disembarks at Quila Ghat in Patna City during an inspection of Chhath ghats on Thursday. Accompanying him on the inspection drive were divisional commissioner Narmadeshwar Lal, Patna municipal commissioner Kuldip Narayan and senior superintendent of police Jitender Rana. The group started the tour from Bhadra Ghat around 12.30pm and finished at Quila Ghat at 4.30 in the afternoon. Divisional commissioner Lal instructed officials concerned to complete work at the ghats in time for Chhath, the most revered festival of Bihar, when devotees descend on the riverbanks to pray to the Sun God. Concerned about the missing slabs and heap of garbage at the ghats, he also ordered officials to construct proper approach roads, avoid bamboo bridges at any cost and ensure cleanliness. The group of officials, who inspected Bhadra Ghat, Mahavir Ghat, Naujar Ghat, Mittan Ghat, Khajekala Ghat, Kanchan Ghat and Quila Ghat, went around in boats to check the water level at the riverbanks so that the risky ghats could be identified.
