Police nabbed three suspected Maoists and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in combing operations between late Saturday night and Sunday.

Gaya senior superintendent of police Nishant Tiwary said: “The arrested Maoists have been identified as Jattu Ravidas, Rajendra Yadav and Basant Mandal. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including an Insas rifle, 200 live cartridges of .303 bore, 400 metres of codex wire used in explosions, 10 improvised explosive devices, 30 detonators, 50kg raw material to prepare explosives, 100 safety fuses and other materials were recovered from Maoist hideout in Chalho.”

The operations followed an encounter between the forces and the rebels in Chalho zone in Aurangabad district early on Saturday.

The Maoists launched a subsequent attack on Amas police station late on Saturday evening.

However, the attack on the police station was foiled as the jawans posted there were quick to retaliate and ultimately forced the rebels to retreat.

Magadh division deputy inspector-general (DIG) of police Bachchu Singh Meena and Gaya senior superintendent of police Nishant Tiwary visited Amas police station on Saturday night and took stock of the situation.

The DIG and the senior superintendent of police spoke to the Aurangabad superintendent of police (SP) Upendra Kumar Sharma to send reinforcements from his district to counter the Maoists as the area of Amas police station falls on the Gaya-Aurangabad bordering area.

Forces from Barachatti police station area and the CRPF jawans rushed towards Amas police station and forced the Maoists to flee.

An encounter took place between the security personnel and the Maoists at Jaipur village under the Chalho zone in Aurangabad district on Saturday.

Security forces compri- sing the district armed police, CRPF and the CoBRA battalion had forced the Maoists to flee.
