Muzaffarpur, July 22: The former mayor of Muzaffarpur, Samir Kumar, has come under the police scanner for his alleged involvement in the murder attempt on property dealer Vikku Shukla.
The incident occurred in Kalambagh Chowk under Kazi Mohammadpur police station on July 18. Vikku suffered injuries in his right arm and shoulder in the attack.
Vikku has named Samir in the FIR. Vikku said Fighter, a local criminal, and his accomplice had fired at him.
The police have launched a hunt for Fighter and his accomplice and carried out raids in Vaishali, Samastipur and Muzaffarpur.
Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar told The Telegraph: “The role of the former mayor is being probed. We would soon interrogate him and take action.”
Samir denied any role in the firing but said he was ready to co-operate with the police.
According to the police, Vikku had taken Samir’s name as the mastermind in the attack. Rajesh has asked the assistant superintendent of police (city) Vikas Varman to investigate the charges levelled on Samir by Vikku.
Samir has petitioned the zonal inspector-general of police Gupteshwar Pandey claiming that he was falsely implicated in the case at the behest of Munna Shukla, a former Lalganj JD(U) MLA. Vikku is a close relative of Munna, who is presently languishing in Khudiram Bose Memorial Central Jail in connection with the murder of former science and technology minister Brij Bihari.
The minister was gunned down by armed criminals on the premises of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna.
