Patna, June 27: After a lull of around five days, the rain is back and the weathermen are of the opinion that it would continue to lash the state capital for the next two days.

“The descent of depression from Chhattisgarh towards north led to the weakening of monsoon over Bihar in the past couple of days. However, conditions favourable to the monsoon are back in the state and hence moderate rainfall is expected at many places in the next 48 hours,” said Animesh Chanda, director of Patna Met department.

Explaining the favourable condition, Chanda said a trough line between western Rajasthan to northern Bay of Bengal across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the Gangetic areas has brought the rain to the state.

Meanwhile, rain and thundershowers are likely in the capital in the next 48 hours.

The rain has brought the mercury down remarkably. “The temperature at most places in the state, including Patna, in the past 48 hours have been less than the average temperature for this month,” said Chanda.

Patna has received 11.9mm rainfall in the past 33 hours.

Residents of Patna are exhilarated with the fresh spell of rain. “When the rain stopped for nearly a week, I thought the monsoon deceived us this year as well. The humidity and clear sky were making life uncomfortable for us,” said Prabhat Kumar, resident of Patel Nagar.
