Patna, Sept. 14: Government Railway Police (GRP) today recovered two-year-old Manishka, who was kidnapped from her house in the national capital by the maidservant.
Manishka is the daughter of Manoj Kumar Kharbanda, a high profile manager with a private company in New Delhi. The GRP caught the maid along with the baby when Brahmaputra Express (14056), which she had boarded, was crossing Patna Junction.
The GRP deployed policemen at all the platform of the station after receiving information by deputy commissioner of police (DCP) outer district Rajesh Dev.
Mamta, the maidservant, was arrested from the women’s coach number 1.
Patna railway superintendent of police (SP) Suresh Choudhary said: “After primary investigations, it seems she (Mamta) is a professional baby kidnapper, who took the baby with the motive of selling her off. She has been arrested and will be forwarded to jail.”
The girl’s father, Kharbanda, who resides at Rohini sector in the national capital, told The Telegraph over phone: “Yesterday around 5.30pm, my wife Reena informed me that our daughter was missing along with the maid. Nothing else in our house was missing, but we suspected that Mamta had kidnapped her and informed the police. The maid was working at our house for the past month. She used cook food besides taking care of my daughter.”
He said neither he nor his wife could understand why the maid kidnapped their daughter.
“I am really grateful to Patna GRP who not only rescued the daughter but also informed us regarding her recovery. We wanted to fly to Patna today itself, but no seat was available. Therefore, my wife, along with police officials and me will be catching the first flight tomorrow morning to reach Patna,” he said.
On the other hand, Mamta alleged that the family members used to beat her up which is why she abducted their daughter.
Meanwhile, DCP Dev appreciated the Patna GRP for the extraordinary job.
Patna rail SP added that the Delhi Police would award the GRP men involved in the operation.
