Rabri Devi on Monday slammed Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for eyeing the Muslim-Yadav votebank of the RJD.

According to the former chief minister, the Muslims and the Yadavs will not go anywhere and will remain “where they are now” (read the RJD).

Modi in his 55-minute speech during the Hunkar Rally at Gandhi Maidan had invoked Mahabharat mythology by saying: “The descendants of Krishna’s Yaduvansh should not worry, I am here to take care of them. Krishna had gone to Dwarka from Mathura; I have come from Dwarka to take care of you, have no worries.”

Alarmed by the “sudden love” for the Yaduvanshis and Muslims, Rabri on Monday said: “Did he (Modi) think about the Yaduvanshis and Muslims during the Gujarat carnage? Today, after so many years, he has suddenly come forward to impress them. They (M-Y) will not go anywhere because they know whom to vote.”

At her 10 Circular Road residence, Rabri said: “His (Modi’s) speech will have no impact on the Yadavs and the Muslims.”

Modi, virtually, attempted to poach the votebank of the RJD by reaching out to the Yadavs and the Muslims. The social combination of the M-Y has enabled Lalu Prasad to rule the state for 15 years. Together, they contribute about 30 per cent of the electorate in the state.

“Modi’s penchant for Muslims is fake. The community is not made up of fools. Everyone knows how he treats Muslims,” said Rabri, who was surrounded by at least 60 Muslim women who had come to meet her.

Rabri also felt offended with the sugar-coated remarks of Modi for Lalu. “On one hand, he (Modi) praised him and on the other, he said his regime was a Jungle Raj. Laluji lost the value of that praise when Modi spoke about Jungle Raj. I think Modi slapped himself with his dual comments,” she said.

However, Rabri did not downplay the number of people gathered at Gandhi Maidan for the rally. “The crowd was better than JD(U)’s Adhikar Rally,” she said.
